2020 Waypoint “Bell Road Vineyard” Dry (Orange) Muscat Amador County

From older vines that watch the Steiner Creek flow by, this remarkable wine will surprise and delight the bravest, most intrepid wine explorers. Some say there are white wines that even diehard red-only drinkers will adore, and this is that wine – a stunning aperitif to surprise your friends.

The color is palest white gold with flashes of yellow. The nose is vibrant and alive, with honeydew melon, spices and flowers, Meyer lemon and lime green citrus notes. It is kinetic in the mouth, both drinkable and so savory. There’s a sense of sweet fruit, but this wine is utterly bone dry. The finish is gorgeous – clean, long, and fresh. It is the freshness that reminds you of young Portuguese whites, Sardinian Vermentino, Greek carafe wines, or even Roman Frascati – but it takes a more serious complex turn on the finish and becomes much more like an Alsatian white. This is a masterpiece from winemaker Joe Shebl, best known for his Renwood Zinfandels since 1999.
