Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard

To Kalon is perhaps the most famous of the Beckstoffer vineyards, and certainly one of the most celebrated in Napa’s history. Planted by H. W. Crabb, in 1868, as the Hermosa Vineyard, it was 250 acres and already the most famous vineyard in California when it was renamed To Kalon (meaning “highest beauty” in Greek). Mr. Crabb lived long enough to expand the vineyard several times and made it one of the most successful wine cellars prior to Prohibition. Afterward, it passed to a couple of families who cared well for the vineyard until it was finally purchased (in part) by Andy Beckstoffer, in 1993, and replanted in 1994. Even after 150 years, the reputation of this "grand cru" vineyard has never been greater.

Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard

Planted to a vineyard for over 150 years, Beckstoffer Las Piedras’ history traces back to the Mexican land grants. In the 1840’s European settler Edward Bale planted the property, to Mission grapes. It became the first vineyard planted in what is now the St. Helena appellation. The vineyard was first planted to wine grape varietals by Henry Amstutz. He was a colleague of Henry Pallet, one of California’s first great winemakers.

In 1983, Beckstoffer Vineyards purchased the property and planted it to two clones of Cabernet Sauvignon. The quality of the gravelly soil caused the farmworkers to name the vineyard Las Piedras, translated to “little pebbles.”

Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard

Dr. Crane vineyard sits at the base of the western hills of St. Helena. A window into showcasing one of the grapes that gave birth to Cabernet Sauvignon from one of California’s most legendary single-vineyard plots of earth. Napa pioneer, Dr. George Belden Crane, originally planted Dr. Crane Vineyard, in 1858. Acquired by Beckstoffer Vineyards in 1997, the vineyard’s gravelly loam soils were replanted, in 1998, to multiple clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc.

Beckstoffer Georges III

Historical records show that a portion of this vineyard was planted in 1895 by Mrs. Thomas Rutherford. This 300-acre parcel first purchased by Beaulieu founder Georges de Latour in 1928 and called Beaulieu Vineyard Number 3, was the home to BV’s Rutherford Cabernets made by the renowned winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff. These wines achieved wide acclaim in the 1960’s and 70’s, establishing BV’s pre-eminence in the making of fine Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Purchased by Beckstoffer Vineyards in 1988, the vineyard has since been replanted using new Cabernet Sauvignon clones with tighter spacing and advanced trellising systems, enhancing both quality and grape tonnage.

The Alejandro Bulgheroni Estate Vineyard

Alejandro Bulgheroni Estate is planted in two parts, one above and one below the beautiful stone barn and winery on Meadowood Lane in St. Helena. It has had several well-known owners beginning with John Howell, the blacksmith for whom they named the mountain; then Charles Krug. In modern history, the site was first planted to grapes by Jim and Nena Talcott, in 1975. Under their ownership, a charming stone winery was built to vinify the property’s grapes. The property then served as the Founders Room for the wine portfolio of H. William Harlan and produced the first vintages of The Napa Valley Reserve. Now, under the Alejandro Bulgheroni Estate crest, the vineyard is producing some of the most exceptional small lot Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley.

Lowrey Vineyard

Planted by the Bettinelli and Rodgers family, this 161-acre parcel sits on a 678-acre rocky outcropping overlooking from hundreds of feet in elevation, Oakville and Rutherford down on the valley floor. This incredible vineyard project created numerous parcels of hillside vineyard. Our piece is on the site of the original homesteader from the late 19th century, John Lowrey. The ruins of Mr. Lowrey’s home is visible from the vineyard itself – and is divided into six pieces called, in order, Valley View, Basalt Ledge, Orchard Side, Cellar Block, Homestead, and South View. Singularly one of the most beautiful vineyards we have ever seen, it produces Cabernets that are dense and compact, minerally and expressive, with depth, tension, and balance for long-age ability.

Renwood Estate Ranch

The Renwood Estate Ranch vineyard is located on the hills of Amador County and is predominantly planted with Zinfandel in both head-trained and trellised vines. The slope of the vineyard has shallow soils with good drainage, optimal for Zinfandel. Each block is analyzed so that the varietal best suited to the conditions are planted of that block. Within a single acre, several varietals are grown to foster the flavors and aromas that define our wines. The grapes grown on the ranch are supplemented by fruit sourced from premier Amador County vineyards. The Old Vine Zinfandel tradition continues to thrive at Renwood with select vineyard sites that feature old vine, dry-farmed, head-pruned Zinfandel. Each source is selected to highlight unique soils, elevations, exposure, and vine material. Our winemakers work with these growers and recommend viticulture practices, which result in the highest quality fruit.

Patagonia Extrema

OTRONIA is located in the Southern Center of the Chubut Province on the shores of Lake Musters-called "Otron" by the ancient inhabitants, almost at the-50km-limit of the Santa Cruz province. It has50 hectares of organic vineyards in Latitude 45° South, 33 LS (out of a total of 70 hectares within the province) with varietals such as Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris. It is one of the southernmost vineyards in South America and the world that creates high quality wines. OTRONIA is in the coldest region of the country, with temperatures reaching 20°C below zero in winter. Frosts are prominent throughout the year, even during the vegetative cycle, a stage where the thermal amplitudes are too extreme. The average temperatures throughout the year are between 3°C and 4°Clower,when comparing to the Uco Valley. This is a factor that characterizes the region, giving a great aromatic intensity, very good acidity, freshness and purity of the wines.

Lovall Valley

The Grieve Family Estate Vineyard is located in Napa’s remote Lovall Valley, a unique hilltop bowl that straddles the border of the Napa and Sonoma valleys. Here, fog from nearby San Pablo Bay settles into Lovall Valley’s unique contours, from early evening through midday, making it one of Napa Valley’s coolest regions. The decidedly cooler climate profile, more like Sonoma Coast than Napa, combined with gravelly loam soils and nurtured by rigorous organic farming protocols results in the estate’s distinctive fruit expression and complex structure.

Heintz Vineyard

This old-vine, wide-row ridgetop vineyard is one of California’s most iconic sites, with a strong maritime influence delivering complex savory and mineral elements. Among its many remarkable traits, coastal fog moves directly through the vineyard during the growing season – neither above nor below it. This results in great diversity and detail in the aromas and flavors of the fruit. The soil type here is quite diverse as well. The western side of the site features sandstone close to the surface while the eastern side features more clay.

Starscape

Starscape Vineyard (previously named Floodgate and prior to that, Mark West Vineyard) is located on Trenton-Healdsburg Road on the southern end of an area known as the Middle Reach of the Russian River. The Middle Reach is arguably the most iconic area for Russian River Pinot noir. This vineyard, with its rolling hills, sits along the curve of the Russian River before it meets its fate with the Pacific Ocean. In addition to the ocean fog, the gold ridge soil makes this vineyard a prime spot for Pinot.

Alto Agrelo

This vineyard is located in the highest part of the Agrelo region and is characterized by the great heterogeneity of its soils, by the slope, and by the presence of native flora and biodiversity, due to its organic and sustainable management.

Alkina

Alkina is a 60 hectare farm with 43 hectares of planted vines. The youngest blocks were planted in 2017, while 6ha of the oldest vines were planted in the early 1950s by Les Kalleske. The original vineyard has been certified organic and biodynamic (NASAA) since 2016. In that same year, we added on the neighboring Owens Vineyard, 20ha of the established vineyards that came up for sale at just the right moment. This part of the vineyard is also farmed organically and biodynamically, but it is not yet certified.
